Background

This is a major milestone for DHL Express, which launched Vienna Airport-headquartered DHL Air Austria in November 2021.

In a LinkedIn post on October 18, DHL Air (Austria), said: “We are thrilled to share with you that we have reached a significant milestone as we marked the first flight of DHL Air Austria’s very first #Boeing767!

First Flight

“Proudly serving DHL’s European network, OE-LYA took to the skies from Leipzig to Bologna, marking the beginning of a new era for our airline.”

DHL Air Austria was set up to handle European cargo flights, with a plan for 18 Boeing 757Fs and around 176 pilots.

The airline’s AOC (Air Operator Certificate) and the OL (Operating License) were issued in October 2021.

Fleet Status

As of November 2021, three of the total of 18 757Fs were registered in Austria. The transfer of another 15 757Fs to DHL Air Austria was due to be completed in the first quarter of 2022.

All 18 freighters are now in service.

Transfer from DHL Air UK

The aircraft were transferred from DHL Express’ DHL Air UK business, following the country’s withdrawal from the European Union.

The East Midlands Airport-based UK airline subsequently focused on developing as an intercontinental airline, expanding its 767F operations and adding new Boeing 777Fs into its fleet.
