A mining company is set to construct an airport in the Upper East Region.

A plan to build an airport comparable to those in Wa or Tamale in Talensi, in the Upper East Region, for Cardinal Namdini Mines Limited's exclusive usage has been revised in order to better serve the entire region.

The Upper East Region currently lacks an airport, in contrast to Tamale in the Northern Region and Wa in the Upper West Region. The Ministry of Transport has persuaded the Talensi District company to convert the proposed airstrip into an airport, arguing that it would be able to serve the entire region.

The Cardinal Namdini Mining Company, a Chinese mining company, has already started the construction of the airport.

According to Steve Ofori-Asamoah, the project's project manager, the Cardinal Namdini Gold Project is currently in the construction stage.

When the mining company starts production in the last quarter of 2024, the original plan called for the construction of an airport to improve operations.

According to Mr. Ofori-Amponsah, the goal of the airfield is to facilitate the movement of firm employees outside the area for business in Kumasi, Accra, and Takoradi as well as for bullion purposes.

When the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Dr. Sulemanu Koney, and other officials toured the company's mining site, he made this statement while speaking with the media.

A Shandong Gold affiliate is Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd. It is expected to produce 150 million tonnes of ore, equivalent to five million ounces of gold, over the course of a 15-year surface mining lease in the Talensi District.

Mr. Ofori-Amponsah stated that the company was persuaded to convert the planned building of an airstrip into an airport because the area does not currently have one during consultations with the government regarding the project.

He emphasised that although the mining firm's management had previously sanctioned a little amount to start the project, the company was still in negotiations with the government to clear the way for its implementation.

In order for the project to be started and be finished ahead of time in order to fulfil its intended aims, he added, "We are presently waiting for negotiations between our company and the government to grant the green light."

The actual building work would start as soon as the discussions were finished, he stressed, as the design and other preliminary work are already nearly finished.

He said that the initiative will benefit the corporation as well as the general public and that the company has also contracted with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

Despite the fact that the project's location has not yet been decided, he expressed his joy that, when it is finished, the new airport will be a great relief to the public since it will make it simple for them to travel to the area for business and other social activities.

The company's intention to build an airport in the area excited the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, during a polite visit.

He claimed that the government had already set aside land at Anateem for that purpose and that partnering with the government to make the airport project a reality would be a fantastic move for the corporation.
