Four candidates vying to take over HMM



The number of bidders vying for control of HMM, South Korea's premier airline, is escalating.


Interested parties have until August 21 to submit a proposal after state-backed firms last week declared they will sell their controlling stake in HMM.


thetransporteronline24 has previously written about two conglomerates who are interested in acquiring HMM and have shipowning subsidiaries: Harim Group, which oversees Pan Ocean, and SM Group, which owns SM Line.


LX Holdings and Dongwon Group, two Korean businesses with interests in logistics, are also contenders for HMM.


By the end of this year, state-run banks, who have been in charge of HMM since 2016, expect to have completed the sale of the renowned shipping company.
