New cooperation between Spain and Portugal for renewable hydrogen Production

Lhyfe, a French renewable hydrogen producer, and Spanish renewables utility Capital have entered into an agreement to collaborate on the development of offshore renewable hydrogen projects.

According to the agreement, Lhyfe and Capital will work together to construct hydrogen production sites on some of the 7,5 GW offshore wind farms currently being built by Capital in both countries.

The two companies claim to have the world's only operational prototype offshore green hydrogen production system, called Sealhyfe. This system was launched in September 2022 in France. Lhyfe plans to have 200 MW green hydrogen production capacity in 2026, and 3 GW by 2030.

We have partnered with the world’s most experienced offshore hydrogen producer – Lhyfe. Through this partnership, we plan to harness some of the hydrogen produced by our onshore wind farms to contribute to a balanced energy transition and address potential challenges in the electricity grid. This will also bring additional socio-economic advantages to our onshore projects, including increased investment and more qualified jobs, according to Capital’s offshore director, Pablo Alcón.

According to the companies, the scope of the cooperation agreement could be expanded to other markets.
