Ashaiman citizens give the government a two-month deadline to restore the roads

The government has been given a two-month deadline by the Coalition of Ashaiman Residents to start rehabilitation work on all Ashaiman roadways. Their protest, which emphasised the terrible condition of the roads, was followed by this demand.

Freeman Tsekpo, the assemblyman representing the Nii Komieteh Electoral area, petitioned Ashaiman Albert Boakye Okyere on behalf of the locals, stating that if restoration work does not start within the next two months, they intend to picket the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

"We urgently request that the government direct all contractors who have received road construction contracts in Ashaiman Municipality to report to the location and begin work on repairing our roads. We urge that the following significant road segments be repaired right away, Tsekpo remarked.

The roadways in dispute are the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly Traffic Light to Presby section of the Ashaiman Agyei Kwadwo main route, the Ashaiman Overhead to Zenu road's major market to Lebanon section, the Ashaiman Newtown Junction to Afariwa Junction road, and the Community 22 to Lebanon inner roads.

"We will organise another march if we do not observe any community work within two calendar months. This time, we'll picket at the Ministry of Roads and Highways after marching there. We hope this call will receive the necessary attention, he said.

Meanwhile, Ernest Norgbey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman, expressed concern over the government’s deliberate decision to deny the residents of Ashaiman access to quality roads.

“I have said it in so many media outlets, we have fought to draw the government’s attention to the bad nature of our roads but unfortunately the central government refuse to heed to our plight. And that is why today’s demonstration is very important for the people of Ashaiman,” Norgbey said.

“We are saying enough is enough all of us use the same road. Our cars and everything is getting damaged. So we are pleading on behalf of the people of Ashaiman that the government should do the needful and bring the contractors back to the site so that the people of Ashaiman will have some relief,” he stated.
