UK Visas: Starting on October 4, Tourists and Students Will Pay More

Ghanaians contemplating a trip to the UK for less than six months should be prepared to pay an additional GBP 15, and student visas will cost an additional GBP 127.

The cost of a visit visa lasting less than six months will increase to GBP 115 as a result of the fee hike, which is anticipated to take effect on October 4, while the cost to apply for a student visa from outside the UK will climb to GBP 490.

The increase in visa fees, together with the health surcharge paid to the UK's publicly financed National Health Service (NHS), is expected to bring in about GBP 1 billion and assist in covering the increase in public sector wages in the country.

"We are planning to raise the fees that we charge foreign nationals who enter the country for visa applications as well as the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which is a fee they must pay to use the NHS. According to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, "all those prices are going to go up and that will raise over GBP 1 billion, so generally speaking, visa application fees will go up dramatically and similarly for the IHS."

The increase in costs includes, among other things, fees for employment and study applications, certificates of sponsorship, and confirmation of acceptance for studies.

The Home Office highlighted that the modifications are anticipated to take effect on October 4 and are contingent to legislative approval.
