The GEA's credit facilities are now accessible to Upper West shippers

At a forum hosted by the GSA on Tuesday, August 29th 2023, members of the Greater West Region Shipper Committee were provided with an overview of the credit facilities available through the Ghana Entrepreneurs Agency.

The forum which was held at the In-Service Training Center in Wa was designed to support Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) to enhance their operations, and ultimately boost their export volumes and thereby help to strengthen the Cedi.

It was set up in response to worries expressed by importers and exporters in the Area about the difficulties they encounter when trying to get loans from financial institutions.

The Upper West Regional Director of the GEA, Mr. M. A. Moomin, took advantage of the occasion to inform committee members on the steps necessary to use credit facilities provided by the GEA. Participants were made aware that young people, women, and individuals with impairments are given preference when applying for financing through the GEA.

Members were urged to take use of the opportunities provided by the GEA by contacting the various Business Advisory Centers (BAC) in their individual District Assemblies for advice and support.

The Tamale Branch Manager of the Ghana Shippers' Authority (GSA), Mr. Frederick Atogiyire, urged members to not be reluctant to ask any GSA officer for help in order to take use of the credit facilities accessible to their particular category of business. He advised them that the GSA's branch office was conveniently situated at Kalpohen Junction in Tamale on the third floor of the Unity Plaza building. Members may also seek assistance from the Shipper Complaints and Support Unit (SCSU) at the Paga border.

The program's relevance for the development and expansion of the participants' enterprises was recognised by them as they expressed their satisfaction with it.
