B/A Shippers Learn About Shipping Standards

The Ghana Standards Authority has informed importers and exporters in the Bono, Bono-East, and Ahafo Regions of pertinent procedures designed to improve their business operations.

The importers and exporters were strongly urged to guarantee that their goods pass inspection either prior to shipment or upon arrival during the 89th meeting of the Brong Ahafo Shipper Committee held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Also, the Ghana Standards Authority was urged to issue the necessary certifications for their assortment of shipments, which included food, medicine, and electronics.

According to Madam Beatrice Fidawus, the Administrator of the Ghana Standards Authority for the Brong Ahafo Area, the cost of non-compliance is severe not just for the defaulting firm but also for the entire nation.

The conformity assessment procedure, which aims to ensure that goods entering the Ghanaian market adhere to internationally recognised standards while meeting safety criteria for consumption and usage, was further explained by Madam Fidawus.

The Ghana Shippers' Authority's (GSA) Kumasi Branch Manager, Mr. John B.A. Glover, warned the importers and exporters that any deviation from the established regulations might have dire financial repercussions.

Also, Mr. Glover urged them to visit the Branch's office, which is housed on the first floor of the National Communications Authority (NCA) facility in Danyame, Kumasi, to get more information on the certifications.

The shippers acknowledged that they had learned more about the procedures and expressed their happiness with the conference.

The import/export process must be standardised to guarantee regulatory compliance, maximise efficiency, reduce risks, and maintain product quality. It is essential for building confidence among trading partners and is essential to the growth and sustainability of global trade.
