Akufo-Addo commissions patrol ships for the Navy and Ghana Maritime

Two Boundary Class Ships and a multi-purpose oil spill detection ship have been commissioned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the Western Navy Command and the Ghana Maritime Authority, respectively.

To assist the two security institutions in ensuring proper security and safety for Ghana's territorial waters, the United States government gave the multi-purpose oil spillage detecting ships and the Boundary Class Ships.

While thanking the US government for aiding in enhancing Ghana's marine security, the President reaffirmed that his country's commitment to safeguarding Ghana's blue economy.

Engineer Michael Kwaw Nunoo, the Western Regional Marine Surveyor for the Ghana Maritime Authority, spoke on the effectiveness the multipurpose vessel will bring to the organization's operations.

For the new cocoa season, President Akufo-Addo has also announced an increase in the farm gate price of cocoa beans of almost 70%, from GH800 to GH1,308 per bag.

The President claims that this growth is the largest to have occurred in West Africa in the previous 15 years.

At Tepa in the Ashanti Region, the President made this declaration to mark the start of the 2023–2024 cocoa harvest.

The surge comes after recent appeals from cocoa farmers for an increase in cocoa prices to stop the prevalence of smuggling and the situation where cocoa farmers give over their lands to illegal miners have become more vociferous.
