IATA introduces EasyPay in five African countries

The IATA EasyPay service has been introduced across five additional nations in Africa.

Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, Congo and Mauritius now have the convenience of using the IATA EasyPay facility if they are IATA Accredited Agents and Billing Settlement Plan (BSP) Participating Airlines.

This development is part of IATA’s ongoing efforts to enhance its financial services, aligning with the objectives of Focus Africa initiative.

IATA’s Focus Africa drive aims at optimizing aviation’s contribution towards improving conditions across the African Continent by serving passengers and shippers more effectively.

As part of Focus Africa, commercial and public partners are dedicated to bringing about demonstrable gains in six crucial areas: sustainability, connectivity, finance and distribution, sustainability, and skills development.

The initiative's goal is to hasten the adoption of contemporary retailing standards as well as secure, efficient, and cost-effective financial services under the emphasis area for finance and distribution.

IATA EasyPay (IEP) is a pay-as-you-go alternative for travel agents that makes doing business with airlines via the BSP easier and more safe.

IATA EasyPay is a closed-loop, voluntary, free, quick, and flexible method of electronic payment. For accredited travel agencies, it offers additional freedom and options for handling their business difficulties.

IATA EasyPay benefits for participating airlines and IATA accredited agents include:

Voluntary – All IATA accredited agents will have access to this new payment option, but it will be up to each agency to choose whether or not to use it. It is not meant to take the place of the BSP's current payment options.

Secure – IATA Certified agents must fund their IATA EasyPay accounts in order to use IATA EasyPay. The IATA EasyPay system will initially check to see if there are funds available in the account at the time of ticket issuance. If so, the system will provide an authorisation and block the relevant funds. There is no chargeback risk for airlines. Nonetheless, agents will continue to be able to cancel and refund their IATA EasyPay transactions via the BSP.

Fast – IATA uses the current BSP processes to pay IATA EasyPay amounts to the airlines on a daily basis, with funds arriving at the airlines 48 to 96 hours after the issuing of tickets.

Economical – IATA EasyPay is more cost-effective for airlines than credit card transactions thanks to its reduced transaction costs.

Flexible – IATA EasyPay transactions are a safe method of payment, so they don't put an Agent's cash sales at danger. This provides a way for agents to issue transactions that are beyond the scope of their ability to issue cash and lowers their financial security obligations to IATA.

The IATA EasyPay service is now accessible in 27 African nations.

In order to grow into the remaining markets in Africa and help the modernization of financial services and solutions, IATA continues to collaborate with a number of agencies.
