Transport for London Orders 11 New CAF DLR Trains

54 new trains will be added to the network from 2024, as part of a deal that was originally agreed with CAF back in 2019.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is funding this purchase in order to expand capacity and assist with the opening of 10,000 additional dwellings, primarily in the Royal Docks and on the Isle of Dogs.

The DLR’s first two new trains are currently undergoing rigorous testing before being rolled out onto the network.

They have a step-by-step design, real-time audio and video travel info, air conditioning, and mobile device charging stations.

Also, the new units have 10 percent more capacity than the current models and offer better amenities for people with mobility issues.

General Manager for the DLR at TfL, Tom Page, stated:

The introduction of the new DLR trains from 2024 will revolutionise the experiences of millions of current customers, while also providing an opportunity to welcome a greater number of new arrivals as new jobs and dwellings are created in East London and Docklands. I am eager to welcome this new fleet and contribute to the continued success of the DLR.
