Japan's largest port severely damaged by ransomware attack.

The Japanese Port of Nagoya is the most well-known maritime organization to have recently been the target of a ransomware attack.

Following the discovery of a disastrous system flaw on Tuesday morning, the port has been unable to load and unload containers from trailers.

A probe has been opened into the incident, which local media have reported originated with the Russian-based ransomware outfit LockBit 3.0.

Some of Toyota Motor's automobile exports are handled by Japan's busiest cargo port. New car shipments won't be hampered by the attack, according to the automaker, but imported and exported parts cannot be loaded or unloaded at the port until the issue is fixed.

Operations are anticipated to resume on Thursday at 8.30 a.m. local time, according to the port authority.

The assault on Nagoya is the most recent in a string of cyberattacks against ports throughout the world. Last Christmas, LockBit crippled the Port of Lisbon in Portugal for days, rendering it unusable. The busiest container port in India, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, was also a target of ransomware last year. Three Canadian ports were targeted in April, but the ports said that neither operations nor data breaches were impacted.
