Rail action plan for West Africa approved

 


COUTE D’IVO, BOUKARINE, NIGERIA, BENIN and TOLO transport ministers have reached an agreement on an action plan to build an international railway network.


The network, which would link the capital Abidjan to the cities of Niamey and Cotonou, would cover an area of 3,034 km, with 1,946 km of existing lines being upgraded and 1,081 km of new lines built.


The West African Economic and Monetary Union (WEEMU) meeting took place on May 5.
