TAAG Angola Airlines has recently announced the expansion of its fleet with the addition of a new B737-800(BCF) Freighter. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing the airline's cargo operations and meeting the growing demand for freight services. The introduction of the new freighter will further strengthen TAAG Angola Airlines' position in the air cargo market and enable the airline to offer efficient and reliable freight solutions to its customers. This expansion underscores the airline's commitment to providing comprehensive and high-quality air transportation services.
TAAG Angola Airlines (DT, Luanda 4 De Fevereiro) took delivery of its first B737-800(BCF), its first dedicated freighter, and began its operations in mid-December 2023.
Aircraft Details
D2-TBU (msn 33552) was ferried to Luanda 4 De Fevereiro after conversion in mid-September 2023, but remained parked for three more months. It was inducted into the carrier's fleet before the first revenue flight to Lagos on December 19, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. It has since been used to connect Angola with Nigeria and the Republic of Congo (through Brazzaville).
Operational Expansion
Although TAAG operates a single B737-700(QC), the quick-change freighter does not have a large cargo door.
The airline has simultaneously added a further two B737-700s, increasing the type's fleet to seven units (excluding the QC unit). TAAG also operates six DHC-8-Q400s and five B777-300(ER)s. It has three B777-200ERs, although all are mothballed. The airline has a firm order for two B787-9s and two B787-10s, and plans to lease fifteen A220-300s as it seeks to develop Luanda into a new connecting hub for Africa.
