Renew your roadworthy certificates and licenses to avoid late fees

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has issued a reminder to all motorists regarding the renewal of their roadworthy certificates and driver’s licenses.

In a statement released on January 23, 2024, the DVLA emphasized the importance of renewing driver’s licenses and roadworthy certificates in a timely manner. The authority highlighted that failure to renew these documents before their expiry dates will result in delinquency charges being levied.

According to the DVLA, driver’s license holders and vehicle owners must ensure that their licenses and roadworthy certificates are renewed before the specified expiry dates, as indicated on their documents. Failure to do so will lead to the imposition of appropriate delinquency charges, in accordance with the Fees and Charges Instrument 2015 (L.1.2220).

Furthermore, the DVLA advised motorists whose vehicles may not be in use for the entire validity period for roadworthiness to apply to the Licensing Authority to cancel the Vehicle Registration Certificate. This action can be taken in accordance with Regulation 15 (1) of the L.I 2180, which allows for the cancellation of the Vehicle Registration Certificate and the issuance of a Lay-Off Certificate in such circumstances.

In light of this regulation, vehicle owners are urged to take note of the requirements and comply accordingly when necessary.

It is imperative for all motorists to adhere to these renewal requirements and regulations set forth by the DVLA to ensure compliance with road safety standards and avoid incurring delinquency charges.
