Finnish motorcycle maker Verge has revealed an electric bike that makes use of an artificial intelligence-powered radar and camera system.
Safety Features
Named the TS Utra, this motorcycle features six cameras alongside a front and rear radar in the hopes of improving rider safety.
This artificial intelligence system is reportedly backed up by a machine learning system which can adapt safety assistance systems based on the rider’s behaviour.
The systems are controlled through Verge’s 'Starmatter' dash display which is capable of receiving over-the-air updates. This display will also activate a rear-view camera when the rider activates the indicator to avoid potential collisions.
Additional Safety and Performance Features
Alongside the new advanced safety systems, the TS Ultra benefits from traction control, and an anti-lock braking system.
As for performance, the TS Ultra makes use of an electric motor mounted with the rear wheel hub, producing a claimed 150kW of power and 1200Nm of torque.
Verge also claims a 0-100km/h time of 2.5-seconds, and a top speed of 200km/h.
This reportedly allowed the Verge engineers to set the battery as low as possible in the bike’s frame optimising the centre of gravity. The electric motor’s placement provides a futuristic aesthetic, but reportedly added some extra weight hanging off the rear axle.
Battery and Charging
As for range, the TS Ultra can reportedly cover up to 375km off a single charge, thanks to a 21.8kWh battery. It can also restore 80 per cent charge in 25 minutes through a CCS charging port.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the Verge TS Ultra starts at $US44,900 with American deliveries expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024.
