At the 2024 CES, Honda revealed two exciting electric-vehicle concepts that showcase the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability. These concepts demonstrate Honda's dedication to advancing electric mobility and pushing the boundaries of design and technology. The unveiling of these concepts marks a significant step forward in Honda's electrification strategy and signals the brand's readiness to embrace the future of transportation. With these new electric-vehicle concepts, Honda continues to position itself as a leader in the development of cutting-edge, environmentally friendly vehicles.
Honda has revealed two electric-vehicle concepts at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week, along with an announcement about its all-new electric-car platform.
Honda Zero Series Electric-Vehicle Concepts
While the Honda Saloon concept could be the love-child of a Lamborghini Countach and a Tesla Cybertruck with its sloping design and gullwing doors, the Space-Hub has taken a more traditional approach to a people-mover – though the concept has drawn influence from the Sony Honda concept known as the Afeela, replacing its front grille with a high-definition screen.
Honda's Approach to Electric-Vehicle Development
Rather than pursuing a $5 billion project with General Motors – a collaboration which was abandoned a year after it was announced – Honda has instead decided to develop a blank-sheet electric-car platform based on the mantra of "thin, light, and wise".
"The mobility we dream of is not an extension of the trend of ‘thick, heavy, but smart’ electric vehicles,” Global Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe said in a statement.
"We will create a completely new value from zero based on thin, light and wise as the foundation for our new Honda Zero electric vehicle series to further advance the joy and freedom of mobility to the next level."
Honda's Current and Future Electric-Vehicle Offerings
To date, the car company's only electric vehicle has been the Honda E – a small city hatchback, which it announced it was discontinuing in December 2023 after four years on sale in Japan and Europe.
The brand has also announced new branding for future Zero Series electric models – a retro 'H' which echoes the very first badge used on Honda cars between 1963 and 1969.
Honda says in 2026 it plans to launch its first Zero Series electric vehicles in North America, based on the Saloon concept, followed by additional models in Japan, Asia, and other global markets.
