As of Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the extensive reconstruction and expansion of the Accra-Tema Motorway has been set in motion. This ambitious 19.5-kilometer project encompasses a 10-lane stretch from the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout to the Tema roundabout, signifying a significant infrastructural development for the region.
Supervising this groundbreaking project is Maripoma Enterprise Limited, a distinguished Ghanaian-owned construction company known for its expertise and commitment to excellence in the field.
During a recent tour of road projects in Accra, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, unveiled this transformative initiative. The minister and his team meticulously inspected ongoing drainage projects at Tema Community 11 and 12, in addition to the Tema Motorway expansion project.
Mr. Amoako-Atta emphasized that the Accra-Tema Motorway project marks the initial phase of the expansive expansion endeavor. Furthermore, he outlined the subsequent phases, with the second project encompassing the stretch from Tetteh Quarshie to Apenkwa, and the third phase extending from Apenkwa to Neoplan.
Assuring prompt and efficient progress on the project, the minister urged institutions with billboards along the road to promptly remove them. He also expressed his anticipation for a substantial transformation in road infrastructure throughout 2024, culminating in the commissioning of completed projects.
Commending the commendable progress of the ongoing drainage work at communities 11 and 12, Mr. Amoako-Attah stressed the importance of engaging with the community before commencing any project to ensure seamless cooperation. He highlighted the significance of briefing residents about the project to enable them to plan adequately for parking and other potential inconveniences.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized the imperative of delivering high-quality work and cautioned against substandard construction. He underscored that any construction company found delivering unsatisfactory work would face legal consequences, emphasizing the government's commitment to achieving value for money.
In a significant update, Mr. Amoako-Attah confirmed the completion of the Tema bridge, revealing that a total of 50 such bridges have been successfully completed across the country thus far.
Providing insights into the progress of the Tema drainage system, Mr. Kingsley Attafuah, Technical Director of Raceg Construction Limited, revealed that 80% of the project has been completed since its commencement in July 2023. He assured Ghanaians of adherence to the stipulated schedule, paving the way for road construction slated to commence in March 2024.
