GWM's electric car recalled over charging electrocution risk

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has issued a recall notice for 1659 units of its 2023 GWM Ora electric car due to a software fault that could result in electrocution. The fault occurs when the battery-powered hatchback is improperly disconnected while charging.

Details of the recall notice

According to the recall notice, "Due to a programming issue, if the operator removes the charging cable without cancelling the charge, an electrical arc between the charging plug and the vehicle may occur. If an electrical arc comes into contact with the operator or bystanders it will increase the risk of serious injury or death."

Actions to be taken by affected owners

GWM has advised affected owners to make an appointment at their preferred GWM Dealer who will update the vehicle software free of charge. Alternatively, owners can contact GWM's Customer Support team by phone on 1800 038 100 or via email at cs@gwmanz.com.

Importance of immediate action and adherence to instructions

It is crucial for all affected owners to take immediate action and follow GWM's instructions to avoid any potential risk of harm. Safety should always be a top priority when it comes to operating any vehicle, especially electric cars.

We urge all GWM Ora electric car owners to check if their vehicle is part of the recall and take appropriate action as soon as possible. Stay safe on the roads!
