Background

Van Oord, a leading Dutch marine construction firm, has recently secured two significant contracts in the renewable energy sector. The company has been awarded a contract by Ørsted, a Danish renewables developer, for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan. Additionally, Van Oord has confirmed its involvement in the Baltic Power offshore wind farm project in Poland.

The Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan will have a combined capacity of 920 MW. Situated 35-60 km off the coast of Changhua County, these wind farms will play a crucial role in Taiwan's renewable energy transition. Van Oord's responsibilities for this project include the transport and installation of three export cables, spanning a total length of approximately 175 km. To execute these tasks efficiently, the company will utilize its state-of-the-art cable-laying vessel Nexus and the LNG-powered hopper dredger Vox Apolonia. The project is scheduled to commence in 2024 and is expected to be completed by 2025.

In addition to the Taiwan project, Van Oord has also secured the contract for the installation of monopile foundations at the Baltic Power offshore wind farm in Poland. This wind farm is being developed through a joint venture between ORLEN and Northland Power. The combined value of the contracts for both projects exceeds €500m ($533m).

These recent contract awards highlight Van Oord's continued commitment to sustainable energy development and its strong position within the offshore wind industry. With its expertise and advanced fleet, the company is well-equipped to contribute to the successful implementation of these significant renewable energy projects.

By securing these contracts, Van Oord not only strengthens its presence in the Asian market but also reinforces its position as a key player in the global offshore wind sector.
