This closure is necessary to facilitate the renewal of the railway track on the North Downs Line, which connects Reading and Guildford with Redhill and Gatwick Airport stations. The aim of this project is to enhance the reliability of services for Great Western Railway (GWR) customers.
Over the course of seven days, Network Rail's dedicated engineers will be carrying out a range of essential work. This includes upgrading 332 meters of track that dates back to the 1970s. In addition, the rails, sleepers, and ballast (track stones) will be replaced, ensuring a more robust and efficient railway infrastructure. Furthermore, 16-wheel timbers over the river Wey, which provide crucial support to the rails on the bridge, will also be renewed.
