flydubai Orders 30 Boeing 787s

Dubai-based airline flydubai has placed an order for 30 Boeing 787s, marking a significant expansion of its fleet. The order includes both the 787-8 and 787-9 models, which will be used to support the airline's growth plans. The fuel-efficient aircraft will enable flydubai to expand its network and offer customers a superior travel experience. This investment demonstrates flydubai's commitment to providing world-class service and ensuring long-term success in the competitive aviation industry. Boeing is proud to partner with flydubai and looks forward to supporting their continued growth and success.

Dubai's low-cost airline, flydubai, has announced a purchase of 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, marking the airline's first foray into the world of widebody aircraft. The order, valued at $11 billion, was unveiled at the Dubai Airshow and will see the planes delivered from 2026 onwards.

Flydubai's Expansion Strategy

Flydubai's chairman, Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, stated that the new aircraft will allow the airline to expand its network and cater to growing demand on existing routes. The airline has previously operated a fleet of Boeing 737 family aircraft and has orders for a further 137 737 MAX planes.

The move towards widebody aircraft represents a significant shift in strategy for flydubai, which has previously focused on operating a single fleet type. However, the airline believes that the benefits of the 787 Dreamliner will outweigh any additional costs or complexity.

Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Features

The 787-9 can carry up to 296 passengers and has a range of 7,565 nautical miles. Since its launch in 2011, the 787 family has enabled airlines to launch over 380 new nonstop flights across the globe.

Flydubai's Commitment to Expansion

Flydubai's network currently spans over 115 destinations across 54 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. The airline has found success in the low-cost model and has continued to grow since its first order of 50 Boeing 737 aircraft in 2008.

At the signing ceremony for the order, Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commented that the 787-9 is "perfectly suited" to flydubai's needs as it looks to open up longer-range routes and add capacity across its network.

Flydubai's commitment to enabling more people to travel across its expanding network is evident in this latest move towards widebody aircraft. The airline's success thus far is a testament to its strategic approach and its ability to adapt to changing market conditions.
