Whether you're cruising down the highway or tackling tough terrain, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma X-Runner Concept is a top-of-the-line choice for any driver seeking a high-performance sport truck.

Toyota unveiled a surprising concept truck at the 2023 SEMA show in Las Vegas. The Tacoma X-Runner, a sport-truck concept, caught everyone's attention with its street-oriented design and impressive modifications.

Design Features

While Toyota is known for emphasizing the off-road capabilities of its mid-size pickup truck, the Tacoma X-Runner concept takes a different approach. The truck is equipped with a lowered suspension, widened track width, and a solid axle from the Tundra with a 4.30:1 final drive and an electronic locking differential. These modifications allow for better handling and performance on the streets.

Engine Specifications and Exhaust System

Under the hood, the Tacoma X-Runner concept boasts a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine, which is capable of producing 421 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. This is a significant increase compared to the most powerful setup of the 2024 Tacoma, a 326-hp four-cylinder hybrid. The exhaust pipe has also been modified to route to just below the rocker panel on the side of the truck.

Suspension System

The suspension system of the Tacoma X-Runner concept is borrowed from the Tundra, providing a lower ride height while still being able to carry a load. The team behind the truck also customized the length of the control arms due to the lowered stance of the Tacoma. Additionally, Toyota strengthened the frame and added stiffer springs and 2.5-inch Bilstein shocks at each corner.

Wheels and Tires

The truck rides on a set of Lacks Enterprises 21-inch carbon-fiber wheels with forged aluminum centers on Michelin 285/45R21 Sport Tires.

The Tacoma X-Runner concept is finished in Speedway Blue, the same color as the original Tacoma X-Runner that debuted at the 2004 Chicago Auto Show.

Production Uncertainty

While it is unclear whether this concept will go into production, it is undoubtedly an exciting prospect for performance enthusiasts.

Summary

Toyota's Tacoma X-Runner concept is an impressive display of performance and design. It represents a departure from the traditional off-road capabilities of Toyota's mid-size pickup truck and showcases the brand's ability to innovate and push boundaries in the automotive industry.
