The fourth liner in the world to manage a fleet of more than 3 million slots will be COSCO, the largest shipowner in the world by dwt, with its upcoming boxship delivery.
The state-run Chinese behemoth is less than 2,000 slots away from entering the 3m teu club according to data from Alphaliner.
COSCO joins Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), Maersk and CMA CGM in the above 3m teu segment.
MSC has extended its lead at the top of the carrier rankings, with its current fleet reaching 5.36m teu, up from 4.61m teu at the beginning of January, according to the latest data from Linerlytica, which is predicting third placed CMA CGM will overhaul Maersk for the silver spot on the liner podium by 2026.
