Zambia - DR Congo - Angola rail route study supported by EU and USA

The establishment of a railway linking the Copper Belt region of Zambia with the Katanga sector of the DR Congo and the existing rail connection to the port of Lobito in Angola is to be studied.

Part of a planned Trans-African Passage would be framed by this.

With the Organization for Worldwide Foundation and Venture, which was launched in 2022 as an optional component of China's Belt and Street Drive, the European Association and the USA will support the inspections agreed upon by the three countries.

The assistance, according to the EU and US governments, will combine financial resources and professional knowledge in a collaborative approach that might be replicated in other vital routes throughout the world.

The EU and USA will support the submission of pre-plausibility studies as the next step. This will build on already existing US-driven support for modernising the 1 067 mm gauge Benguela rail route course from Lobito to the frontier with the DR Congo.

The new railway is intended to improve commerce, aid in the distribution of goods in the area, and improve local residents' mobility, all while reducing typical vehicle travel times and the cost and carbon footprint of shipping metals, horticulture goods, and other commodities.

'Our objective isn't just to associate a land-locked district to the ocean', said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the Organization for Worldwide Foundation and Speculation occasion at the G20 culmination in New Delhi on September 9. 'Our organization will likewise put resources into nearby worth chains, in clean energy and in abilities for the neighborhood labor force. This is the soul of PGII: it is an entirely different way to deal with huge framework speculation. It is about shared flourishing. It is about genuine advantages for all accomplices.'
