Ukraine praises advancements in Black Sea shipping

Over the weekend, two bulk ships arrived in Chornomorsk, Ukraine, to pick up grain, and a ship that had been stranded in Odesa since February 2022 was allowed to depart, showing that Russia has relaxed its control over the Black Sea.

The Aroyat and Resilient Africa, two bulk carriers flying the flag of Palau, arrived Saturday in the port of Chornomorsk in Ukraine, becoming the first civilian cargo ships to do so since Russia pulled out of a grain transport agreement mediated by the UN in July.

The two ships will be transporting about 20,000 tonnes of wheat to nations in Africa and Asia, according to Oleksandr Kubrakov, the deputy prime minister of Ukraine, who made the announcement in an online statement on Saturday.

The Puma, a bulk carrier flying the flag of the Cayman Islands, became the fifth stranded ship to escape Ukrainian waters over the weekend following Ukraine's opening of a shipping route five weeks ago. The ship followed the Romanian and Bulgarian coastlines before making its way to an anchorage off Istanbul.
