Sustainable Fuel to be Introduced by Kenyan Airlines

In an effort to lower carbon emissions in the nation, the Kenyan government is now urging more local airlines to adopt Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

According to Mohamed Daghar, principal secretary state department for transport, this was consistent with the nation's attempts to transition to a low-carbon economy and fulfil carbon offsetting pledges.

"We must acknowledge the environmental impact of aviation in this era of increased environmental awareness. The government is dedicated to encouraging environmentally friendly business practises, the official stated.

Daghar claims that the Kwanza government in Kenya, which is now in power, is in favour of using cleaner technologies and conducting more effective operations to lessen emissions and minimise the carbon footprint of aviation.

With the adoption of more fuel-efficient aircraft and sustainable aviation fuels, he said, "Kenya Airlines, our national carrier, has been making important advances towards a greener future."

Before, in Mombasa, Daghar served as the workshop's leader for Kenya Airlines Aviation 101, also known as the Media Lab.

He noted that in order to hasten the adoption of SAF, the government, industry stakeholders, and producers must all work together to establish a favourable policy and regulatory framework.

He continued, "We also expect them to spend in R&D and, of course, look towards encouraging the manufacture and usage of SAF.

More than 440 airports and airfields support it across the nation, 18 of which are actively administered by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), according to the PS.

He added that it is the duty of the state to guarantee the country's sustainability, growth, and protection. "The government must have a major role in this situation. By investing in airport infrastructure, updating laws, and simplifying airline operations, we must create an atmosphere that is conducive to airline operations, he continued.
