The increase in intra-African passengers is expected to increase the demand for additional planes– Boeing

According to the most recent Boeing Commercial Market Forecast 2023, Africa is predicted to have traffic growth of 7.4%, driven by rapidly expanding intra-regional and domestic networks.

According to the American aircraft maker, this will cause Africa's commercial jet fleet to double to 1,550 aircraft over the next 20 years.

"African carriers are well-positioned to support intra-regional traffic growth and capture market share by offering services that efficiently connect passengers and enable commerce within the continent," said Randy Heisey, Managing Director of Commercial Marketing for the Middle East and Africa at Boeing.

While single aisle aircraft, like the Boeing 737 MAX, will be the most in demand for the continent, he continued, "we expect an increase in the average aircraft size and seats per aircraft for the African fleet."

The recovery of African aircraft traffic in 2023 has been fueled by pent-up demand and economic expansion brought on by rising global commodities prices. Currently, pre-pandemic levels of flights on African airlines have increased by 8%. According to Boeing, the continent's 3.4% long-term annual economic growth will continue to outpace the world average, along with rising urbanisation rates and an expanding middle-class population.
