IATA Applauds Mexico's Restoration To Category 1 Aviation Safety Certification From The FAA

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States has decided to reinstate Mexico's category 1 aviation safety certification after more than two years of being in category 2. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) applauds this move.

The recovery of the category 1 rating was made possible by the joint efforts of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT), the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), the Congress of the Union, and other significant players in the nation's airline industry. These efforts improved the safety, regulatory, and efficiency environment of Mexico's air transportation system.

In order to preserve this category, which reflects the dedication to operational safety and sustainable growth of the air sector for the benefit of all inhabitants and passengers in Mexico, we underline the significance of complying with each observation made during the FAA audits.

IATA affirms its close and ongoing cooperation with the government to foster the industry's medium- and long-term growth.

"Mexico and the United States have some of the best connections in the world, and this connectedness has a big impact on the social and economic development of the nation. In order to expand their service in the Mexico-U.S. market, Mexican airlines will be able to do so once category 1 is reinstated, according to Peter Cerdá, regional vice president of IATA for the Americas. Prior restrictions, which had a significant negative impact on the post-pandemic recovery, will be lifted.
