All passengers flying out of Accra have been reassured by the aviation industry's regulatory body, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), that the GCAA will continue to work to keep all aircraft servicing Kotoka International Airport airworthy and safe for use in commercial operations.
In a statement released in Accra on Monday, September 11, 2023 and forwarded to AviationGhana.com, the GCAA stated that it "remains fully dedicated to safeguarding public safety and security in the aviation industry."
Following an incident involving Delta Air Lines Flight DL157, a statement was made.
That occurrence was validated by the GCAA. "On Friday, September 8, 2023, Delta Airlines flight DL157, which had 215 passengers and 6 crew on board and was headed to New York, United States of America, had to make an emergency landing in Terceira Island, Portugal because of technical difficulties.
The aircraft encountered some mechanical problems en route from Accra to its destination, and the flight crew made an emergency landing at Lajes Airport out of caution.
The Boeing 767-300ER plane, which carried 215 people, made a safe landing, according to the GCAA. After a protracted wait, all of the passengers and crew boarded another Delta Airlines flight to continue their trip to New York.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority is currently in contact with Delta Airlines and other pertinent authorities about the situation, the statement continued, "bearing in mind that the incident did not occur in the Accra Flight Information Region or Ghana's territory."
