The 4th Sensitization Seminar for haulage truck drivers was held at Takoradi, Western Region, by the Ghana Shippers' Authority (GSA). The conference, which took place on June 8th, 2023, was one of several initiatives designed to help truck drivers in the haulage sector adhere to best practices in global trade.

Topics discussed included:

Knowing the details on the "Dangerous Products Placards" for the secure transportation of hazardous materials through Ghana's corridors,

As a defensive driving tactic, avoiding driver fatigue

the control of incidents involving transportation along Ghana's transit corridors,

Role of haulage truck drivers in security evaluation, both preventative and reactive.

Ms. Benonita Bismarck, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers' Authority, noted in a speech read on her behalf by Mr. Fred Asiedu-Dartey, Head of Freight and Logistics at the GSA, that difficulties encountered in transit are caused by a number of factors, such as the continued imposition of VAT on transit goods, the opaque handling of transit cargo (the Uncleared Carg program), and others.

She stated that in order to properly solve these issues, all parties must work together.

The Western Regional Manager of the DVLA, Mr. Fred Gassese, stated that collaboration among industry participants is necessary to advance international transportation.

Haulage transport is crucial for the expansion and prosperity of the nation, according to Capt. Louis Mamoud of the 2BN in Takoradi. As a result, he gave the truck drivers some advice, namely to steer clear of taking up strangers and to drive carefully. You should have emergency response systems and tracking equipment, he advised.

A fundamental prerequisite for incident-free haulage of foreign freight, according to Mrs. Agnes Asamoah Duku, Branch Manager of the GSA's Takoradi Branch, is the safe conveyance of cargo while giving proper consideration to all road safety procedures and protocols. She pleaded with the drivers to make every effort to comply so they could complete their duties with little or no obstacles, especially avoidable ones.
