New Tamale Airport terminal building ready for use July 31

The newly built terminal building at Tamale International Airport, which can accommodate 400,000 passengers a year, is scheduled to open to the general public on July 31.

In response to inquiries concerning the facility's operational status, Mr. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, the transport minister, affirmed the start date for operations.

After completing all of these, the "Go-Live" for the operationalization of the New Terminal Building is slated for July 31st, 2023, I would like to inform this August House.

The recently finished terminal building includes, among other things, a VIP lounge, two boarding gates, four self-service check-in kiosks, eight check-in desks, airline offices, commercial retail sections, a multi-purpose terminal to facilitate Hajj travel, and a 5 km road network. These amenities, which cost roughly US$70 million, are a part of Tamale Airport Development Project Phase Two. A UK export finance facility provided the funding.

Flying out of Kotoka International Airport in Accra, the Tamale Airport is currently the third busiest domestic airport in the nation.

According to Mr. Asiamah, the Site Acceptance Test, required training, and system integration for the facility started back in August 2022 and were successfully finished.

The Tamale International Airport is the third most popular domestic airport in Ghana for flights departing from Accra's Kotoka International Airport, with two major domestic airlines, AAWA and PassionAir, providing daily services with a variety of frequencies to the northern regional capital. The airport is managed by the State-owned Limited Liability Company (SLCLC).

Mr. Asiamah further informed Parliament that the development of Tamale Airport Phase III is currently in the conceptual phase.
