McDermott wins another big deal in Qatar

McDermott, a leading provider of subsea engineering and deepwater construction services in the United States, has been awarded a multi-million-dollar contract from Qatar for the Northern Field production sustainability project (NFPS). The contract is estimated to be in the range of $750-1.5 billion. The project involves the installation of a pipeline for the production of offshore fuel gas, as well as subsea cables.

Comp COMP1 Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI), the EPCI contract for the project, is part of the NFP offshore compression project, which includes the installation of new facilities in Qatar's North Field including compression complexes at 7 locations to maintain gas supply to the current LNG production trains in the future.

The agreement builds on the North Field Expansion Project (NFXP) scope that McDermott was given in 2022; it is presently being carried out and is still one of the biggest contracts ever obtained by the business.

The scope of the project is to include the installation of a total of 190 km (32-inch) diameter subsea pipelines and 17 km (16-inch) subsea composite cables. Additionally, a total of 186 km (35-inch) of fiber optic cables and 10 km (8-inch) of onshore pipelines are to be installed. The entire project management and engineering process will be conducted from the Doha office of McDermott, with fabrication activities taking place at the QFAB, a joint venture fabrication yard of McDermott and Nakilat.
