TAAG leases four new Airbus A220s in Accra.

A return to the Accra market later this year is possible thanks to TAAG Angola Airlines' announcement that it has signed a long-term lease with Aviation Capital Group LLC (ACG) for four brand-new Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

As part of their fleet optimization strategy, TAAG, which began operating flights from Luanda, Angola, to Accra, Ghana, in November 2022, halted operations in March 2023.

In an email response, Diane Chung, Regional Manager, TAAG Angola Airlines Africa, reaffirmed the company's intention to restore service between Luanda and Accra after purchasing a new fleet.

"Unfortunately, the restart will now take place later this year. We are awaiting the delivery of new aircraft, and as soon as they do, we will determine how best to use them to serve the interests of the company, wrote Diane Chung.

The addition of four new A220 aircraft under this arrangement is a glaring indication of our international reputation and a significant step in updating the TAAG fleet, according to Eduardo Fairen, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines. We are devoted to expanding the business, utilizing both our market share and destination portfolio. The Airbus A220 is a sophisticated, technologically savvy piece of equipment ideal for modern gadgets, so our guests can benefit from increased connectivity possibilities while planning their flights and a better flight experience overall.

The CEO and President of ACG, Tom Baker, said on behalf of the company: "On behalf of ACG, we're sincerely thrilled and proud to be a business partner of TAAG Angola Airlines, supporting its growth and expansion goals with the cutting-edge and environmentally friendly A220-300 aircraft. With its comfort, low noise, and fuel-efficient features, this cutting-edge technology will support TAAG's ambition to reopen markets, tap into new locations, and boost connectivity possibilities with more frequencies.

"The A220 is well adapted to the requirements of the African market and is the appropriate choice for TAAG Airlines as it grows its footprint on the continent and beyond," said Mikail Houari, President, Airbus Africa and Middle East. The aircraft will further improve TAAG's service capabilities because of its ideal size, single aisle comfort, and ample baggage and cargo capacity.

Being one of the top full-service aircraft asset managers in the world, Aviation Capital Group was established in 1989. As of September 30, 2022, it owned, managed, and committed to leasing 480 aircraft to 90 airlines in 45 different nations. Tokyo Century Corporation's ACG is a fully owned subsidiary of the company.
