Forwarding of Non-Traditional Exports: DHL listens to Northern Regional Shipper committee

Donatus Derzu, Manager in charge, DHL Northern region, has guided NRSC members through the procedures for exporting non-traditional export (NTE) from the Northern region.

Non-traditional export from the Northern region includes horticultural, food and beverage, handicraft and other manufactured products.

Derzu said DHL has been a dependable cargo exporter in the region for many years and has improved its operations to meet the requirements of its customers.

He said DHL is an international brand with a special airline that flies into the country 4 times per week to pick up cargo. DHL delivers within 5 working days and has an efficient tracking system to track the movement of the shipment. DHL also has branches and offices all over the country where customers can easily drop off their goods for pickup.

Mr Derzu added that DHL has created an e-commerce service to promote the growth of local industry. The e-commerce service is offered at a lower rate than regular shipments. Members of the committee are encouraged to use the e-commerce service and send their packages through DHL.

Atogiyire, the Tamale Branch Manager of GSA, commented on the increasing cost of shipping and called on DHL to take into account the fact that, in the region, the majority of their customers are small-scale businesses whose operations are highly vulnerable to cost increases because of the pressure they put on their businesses.
